Player notes : Yogi was a mainstay of the great New York Yankees dynasty that ruled baseball in the post-WWII era. His World Series record is unmatched by any other player, as he holds the Series records for most games, at bats, hits and doubles, and is high on the list in several other categories. In all he played in 14 World Series with the Bronx Bombers, a record that is not likely to be equaled. He also managed two teams (the '64 Yankees and '73 Mets) in the World Series. He was a great offensive catcher, and solid defensively as well, and is considered by many to be the best at that position in the history of the game. In addition to his great skills as a player, Yogi has long been one of the game's most recognizable personalities. His colorful sayings are still widely quoted, and some (e.g. "It ain't over 'till it's over.") have entered the culture as universally recognized phrases. Taken together, Yogi Berra is likely to stand the test of time as one of baseball's most important and widely known players.
