Player notes: Frank Bolling was a highly effective secondbaseman for the Tigers and Braves during his 12 year career. He was a good fielder, and had decent pop in his bat for a second baseman of his era, hitting a total of 106 home runs and driving in 556 runs. He was involved in a six player trade between Detroit and Milwaukee before the 1961 season, going to the Braves along with a prospect for Bill Bruton and three other players.
After he retired, Bolling returned to his native Mobile, AL, where he got involved in charity work and started a baseball league for physically or mentally challenged youth, the Frank Bolling Adaptive Baseball League. As far as I can determine, this was the first league of it's kind, and now there are a number of such leagues across the country.
