Player notes:Carty was one of the forerunners of the many players who have come out of the Dominican Republic to play in the major leagues in recent years. He was dogged by injuries and health problems throughout his career, but was one of the top sluggers in the National League during the late '60s and early '70s. In his 15 year career he amassed 1,677 hits, 204 HR and 890 RBI. The totals could have been much higher if he had enjoyed good health, but in any event he was a memorable and exciting player who at his best handled a bat as well as anyone of his era.
