Player notes: Chance was an outstanding pitcher for the Angels in the early 60s, one of the first stars of the franchise. His brilliant 1964 season, in which he led the league in ERA, wins, complete games, and shutouts, earned him a well-deserved Cy Young Award. He had two 20 win seasons, and won a total of 128 games in his 11 year career.
Only 23 years old when he won the Cy Young in 1964, Chance was a hard-throwing righty who came close to matching his great '64 campaign only once, in 1967 with the Twins. He won the Comeback Player of the Year that season.
