Player notes: Fox was a standout second baseman
for the White Sox during the 1950s, one of the franchise's
most successful eras. He led the American League in
at bats five times, in hits four times, and in triples
once. He batted .300 or better six times, and led the
league in fewest strikouts a remarkable 11 times.
He was a fixture in the All-Star game during the 50s,
being selected in every year from 1951-1961. He also
did well in his only World Series appearance in 1959,
batting .375 and scoring four runs in a losing cause
against the Dodgers. An outstanding fielder and a tough
out at the plate, Fox got a long overdue election to
the Hall of Fame in 1997.
