Player notes: Hank Greenberg began his career with the Tigers in 1930 at age 19. He was the first Jewish player to achieve stardom in the Major Leagues, and was a hero to American Jews as well as Tigers fans. He was a prodigious power hitter who drove in over 100 runs seven times in his 13 year career (with a career-best 183 in 1937) and slugged a total of 331 home runs. He led the American League in home runs four times, and in RBI four times.

For more information, the Detroit News has an excellent biography of Greenberg on its web site.
