Player notes: Stock was primarily a third-baseman,
but also played significant amounts at SS and 2B. He
was a small man (just 5' 8") with virtually no
power, but had decent speed and usually hit for a good
average. His 204 hits in 1920 was second to Rogers Hornsby
in the National League. He had a career .289 BA, and
hit over .300 four consecutive years during his prime.
He finished his career with a respectable 1,806 hits.
A career National Leaguer, he had his best years playing
for the St. Louis Cardinals, but also played for the
Giants, Phillies, and Dodgers. His lone World Series
appearance was with Philadelphia in 1915, when the Phillies
lost to the Red Sox in five games.
Stock was the father-in-law of Eddie Stanky, who also
had a significant major league career.
