Player notes: Trucks was a fine pitcher for a number of years with the Tigers and several other AL teams. He had a great year in 1949, leading the league in strikeouts and shutouts. In 1952 he pitched two no-hitters in one year, one of only four pitchers to accomplish the feat. Like many players of his generation, he lost some of his best years to service in World War II. Trucks was part of some excellent Detroit pitching rotations in the 1940s. He's not a Hall of Famer himself, but was probably a better pitcher than some who are. |
