Player notes: Yastrzemski is best known
as the last man to win the Triple Crown. He also won
the MVP that year, and was a seven time Gold Glove award
winner. He led the AL in batting average three times
(1963, 1967, & 1968), and in OBP five times. He
was also an outstanding fielder who was blessed with
a strong throwing arm. By all acounts he was a very
likable man, popular with teammates and fans alike.
Yaz stands as one of the all-time great Red Sox players,
second only to the great Ted Williams among Sox stars.
Bill James ranks him fifth all-time among left fielders.
